Put It On Pause

You know how these days we're always pausing what we're doing to do something else? For example, many people watch TV on a streamlined system these days that allows for no commercials and the capability of pausing mid-stream… so we can go to the bathroom, grab a snack, without missing anything. Or when we're watching a YouTube video and your wife says "Honey, will you take out the trash?" We hit pause, take out the trash, and then go back to our video. Or even when you're working madly at your laptop, and then you suddenly remember you have laundry in the wash. You pause what you're doing, take care of the laundry, and go back to what you were doing... or maybe you get distracted again, and you wonder off to do something else, and maybe eventually get back to your work. Or how about when looking at your emails, and then someone pings you live? You ping them back (if you like them), and then you go back to your emails. We won't even go there with all the text messaging going on, in meetings, while you're driving, while you're walking, it seems never ending sometimes!

We have so many distractions in the modern world we live in today. It's almost impossible to not pause at some point throughout your day. You're probably, on average, pausing at least 20-30 times a day if not more.

So as we are busily going about our day to day, week to week, month to month, year to year, pausing all the time, and with time just passing us by, we often don't remember to pause for the more important things in life.

What I'm talking about here is pausing for your relationships, pausing for your health and well being, pausing for your job or career, pausing for your financial situation, pausing for your physical home or work environment, pausing for your own personal growth or just pausing to have fun. When we're caught up in the crazy busy lives that everyone claims to have these days, trying to keep up with all the distractions, multitasking and pauses we deal with on a daily basis, we neglect these major aspects of our lives. These are the aspects that bring us true happiness and wellness in life, and just like a car that we just keep driving and driving, but neglect to maintain and take care of, we will eventually break and run into the ground.
